Laser Hair Removal in Manchester
Laser hair removal at CLNQ Manchester starts at £29 for a small area, with packages of six and twelve. We are at Deansgate Square in the city centre, with further clinics in Knutsford and Wilmslow.
Treatment is carried out by trained aesthetic therapists in a medical clinic with a doctor on site. That matters more than it sounds: laser on the wrong setting for your skin type causes burns and pigment change, and a clinic that can also assess a mole or a skin reaction is a different proposition from a salon that cannot.
Full area-by-area pricing is on our laser hair removal page.
Laser Hair Removal Prices in Manchester
| Area | Single | Package of 6 |
|---|---|---|
| Small — upper lip, eyebrow, fingers | £29 | £125 |
| Medium — underarms, jawline | £34 | £195 |
| Large | £88 | £395 |
| Very large | £125 | £550 |
| Hollywood | £165 | — |
| Full body, female | £230 | £675 |
| Basic body, male | £270 | £775 |
| Test patch | £50 | — |
Courses of twelve are available, and full body female for twelve sessions is £1,200. A package is materially cheaper than paying per session, and since the treatment only works as a course, that is the honest way to price it.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
The laser targets melanin in the hair shaft. Light is absorbed, converted to heat, and that heat damages the follicle enough that it stops producing hair. Surrounding skin is spared because it contains comparatively less melanin — which is also why skin type and tan matter so much to the settings.
Why it takes a course. Hair grows in cycles, and only follicles in the active growth phase are vulnerable. At any moment only a proportion of your hair is in that phase, which is why six to eight sessions four to six weeks apart is the normal course, and why a single session achieves very little.
Expect a 70 to 90 per cent reduction over a full course, with occasional maintenance afterwards. It is hair reduction, and any clinic promising permanent removal in one go is overselling it.
Who Is Suitable?
Laser works best where there is contrast between dark hair and lighter skin, though modern devices treat a far wider range of skin types than the early machines did. A patch test is required before a first course and costs £50.
It does not work on white, grey, red or very fair blonde hair, because there is no melanin for the laser to target. No device does, whatever the advertising says.
It is not suitable if you are pregnant, have an active infection or a tan in the treatment area, take a photosensitising medication such as systemic acne medication or certain antibiotics, or have a history of keloid scarring in the area.
What to Expect
Shave the area the day before — do not wax, pluck or epilate for four weeks beforehand, because the follicle needs to be there for the laser to find it. Avoid sun and fake tan for two weeks either side.
The sensation is often described as a hot elastic band flick. Sessions run from five minutes for an upper lip to an hour for a full body.
Afterwards: redness and mild swelling around the follicles for a few hours. No hot showers, saunas, swimming or heavy exercise for 24 hours, and daily SPF on exposed areas. Treated hairs shed over the following one to three weeks, which can look like regrowth but is not.
Laser Hair Removal Manchester FAQs
How much is laser hair removal in Manchester?
From £29 for a single small area, or £125 for a package of six. Medium areas are £34 a session or £195 for six, and full body female is £230 a session or £675 for six.
How many sessions will I need?
Six to eight, four to six weeks apart, with occasional maintenance afterwards.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe a hot elastic band flick. It is quick, and coarser areas are more noticeable than fine ones.
Does it work on blonde or grey hair?
No. The laser targets melanin, and white, grey, red and very fair blonde hair does not have enough for it to work.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, before a first course. It is £50.
Can I have laser hair removal with a tan?
No. Avoid sun and fake tan for two weeks either side, because a tan raises the risk of burns and pigment change.
