VASER is an ultrasound based device that assists in breaking down the fatty tissues. The term VASER is short for 'Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.' Hi definition liposuction is a technique for selective fat removal to provide an artistic and athletic appearance of the body. This uses a combination of procedures to produce the result. The initial stage uses Vaser to emulsify the fat using ultrasound technology. The next stage uses power assisted liposuction with the Mircoaire device to remove the fat. Further skin tightening can be achieved with using radiofrequency devices such as the BodyTite or Morpheus8.

VASER is usually performed under a general anaesthetic which means you will go to sleep to have this done. The procedure is usually a day case which means you will be discharged the same day. The surgeon will make small incisions to insert the probe and liposuction. The incision is then stitched closed and dressing applied. You will then have some compression garments put on to wear for the next few weeks after the procedure.

Liposuction with VASER is performed under general anaesthetic. The procedure involves using the VASER device to breakdown the fat and then aspirating this with liposuction. Some potential risks with this procedure are discussed below although your surgeon will discuss these and more during your consultation.
Bruising, Swelling, Bleeding
It is normal to get some swelling after any treatment and this usually takes a few weeks to settle. Some patients may also experience bruising or bleeding which is can be related to medication being taken. Some medicines such as aspirin and herbal supplements can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. The complete swelling may take several months to settle following liposuction.
Scar
There will be a permanent small scars where the cannula is inserted. The scar heals well in most people but some people may develop raised or lumpy scarring known as hypertrophic or keloid scars. The surgeon will try keep these incisions as small and as discrete as possible.
Asymmetry
All patients have some degree of asymmetry in the body or face and sometimes following surgery these may become more noticeable or you may become more aware of these. We will try to highlight some of these asymmetries preoperatively. Some of these asymmetries are beyond the control of the surgeon and based on anatomical variation.
Change in Sensation
Any procedure can result in change in sensation to the skin in the treated areas. These changes may result in numbness or reduced sensation which is often temporary although some changes may be permanent.
Residual Fat
It is not possible to remove all the fat in the area and some residual fat or tissue is expected. Sometimes removal of fat can result in some skin laxity as well.
Infection
Infections are uncommon following this type of procedure. If they do occur then it may be a superficial wound infection requiring antibiotic tablets.
Deep Organ Injury
An extremely rare complication of liposuction is injury to internal organs during the procedure. This is fortunately very uncommon although the consequences may be serious and can include death.
Changes with Time
There may be some changes with time, ageing, pregnancy or weight changes. Weight gain will result in the treated areas gaining volume again. You should aim to maintain a stable weight following this procedure.

Most people will go back to work about 1-2 weeks following liposuction surgery. During the first 6 weeks, you will have tight compression garments on.
We recommend that no strenuous activity such as exercise or intercourse is undertaken during the first 6 weeks following surgery. You can return back to the gym after 6 weeks but starting slowly and gradually building up again.
We recommend you wear compression garments for about 6 weeks following any VASER or liposuction procedure. This provides some support and helps reduce swelling. The compression garments are put on in theatre after your procedure is completed.

The ideal candidate would be someone who has localised areas of fat and a relatively athletic figure already. The Body Mass Index should ideally be less than 26. If you have a high BMI or excessive skin laxity then you would not be suitable for this procedure.
