PDO THREAD LIFT

Threads are a safe and effective absorbable suture made from a PDO (Polydioxanone). The threads are carefully inserted just below the skins surface to suspend and support the loose skin, contract the fat tissue and reinstate structure. PDO Threads will then dissolve naturally over the coming months, at what speed is unknown and is dependant on the bodies rate of natural metabolism but usually last around 12 months/1 year. The procedure itself takes only around 30-45 minutes and is undertaken using local anaesthetic in an outpatient setting so patients are able to resume normal daily activities afterwards following doctors advice. Patients often tell us that they’d like to slow down the effects of ageing and regain a more youthful appearance.

Some of us may even look older than our chronological age due to genetics, health conditions, repeated sun damage or maybe smoking has affected the laxity of the skin resulting in premature ageing. PDO Thread lifting is a highly effective non-surgical solution to target sagging skin and to stimulate collagen production that can improve skin texture, fine lines, wrinkles and elasticity. Most commonly thread lifting is used to reduce or eliminate the jowls, contour the jaw, lift the mid face and in PDO for eye lift, target sagging to the upper eyelid. As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin, the two proteins responsible for making our skin padded and plump. As a result the pads in our cheeks can begin to slip creating a heavier lower face sometimes referred to as an ‘inverted triangle of youth’, typical signs of this occurring would be; loss of clean lines, slackening of the cheek area and skin and fat of the upper part of the face dropping downwards.

What are the risks of PDO Thread Lifts?

With all procedures there are risks associated that should be understood fully prior to treatment. Possible complications include:

Bruising, Swelling, Bleeding

It is normal to get some swelling after any treatment and this usually takes a few weeks to settle. Some patients may also experience bruising or bleeding which is can be related to medication being taken. Some medicines such as aspirin and herbal supplements can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. .

Nerve Injury

It is very rare to get a facial nerve injury following a thread lift. There may be some temporary nerve weakness due to swelling following the procedure. This will usually settle after a weeks if it occurs.

Asymmetry

All patients have some degree of asymmetry and sometimes following a procedure these may become more noticeable or you may become more aware of these. These asymmetries may be beyond the control of the doctor.

Change in Sensation

Any procedure can result in change in sensation to the skin in the surrounding area. Most of the time in the case of threads, these changes are temporary.

Extrusion

It is uncommon but sometimes threads may extrude or come through the skin. PDO threads naturally break down with time. If they extrude then they may need removal.

Infection

Infections are uncommon following these procedures although they may occur.

Dimpling

You may sometimes have areas of dimpling or pulling initially following a thread lift procedure. These will often improve with time afterwards.

Changes with Time

Thread lifts are not permanent procedures and there will be changes with time. Each individual will have a variable response and how quickly the laxity recurs will vary.

PDO Thread Lift Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during the consultation?

You will have a consultation with our doctor who will ask about your concerns and desired outcomes. They will take a full medical history and examine you. They will ensure suitability then discuss the risks and benefits of PDO Thread Lift and what to expect during and post treatment.

Are PDO Threads safe?

Yes PDO Threads are FDA approved for safety and have been used for decades by specialists even outside of the aesthetic industry for suturing incisions following medical procedures.

Will I need to have the threads removed eventually?

No, the threads will naturally dissolve over the course of the coming months so there is no need for removal.

Is there anything I should avoid doing prior to treatment?

For one to two days prior to Thread Lift treatment you should avoid; Alcohol, Ginko, Omega fish oil supplements, Chinese medicine, Vitamin E, High-intensity workouts and Steam rooms/saunas.

Does a thread lift hurt?

The procedure should not hurt as your doctor will use Local Anaesthetic to numb the area, you may feel some pressure and at times it maybe uncomfortable but overall should be relatively painless.

How will I feel afterwards?

It is important to be realistic, whilst normal activity can be resumed following a Thread Lift you may feel quite sore for the first couple of days at least. Patients are advised to avoid sudden and strong facial expression for the first two weeks following insertion to avoid dislodging the tiny cones from the tissue and affecting the mechanical lift. You may experience bruising and swelling which can be treated with over the counter pain relief. You may also notice puckering of the skin, this usually disappears within the initial couple of weeks. Pain and Swelling should have reduced almost entirely by two weeks post-procedure

How long will the results last?

The results of a PDO Thread Lift usually last between 6-12 months however this differs between patients.

What other treatments complement PDO Thread Lift?

Many patients choose to enhance the results of PDO Thread Lift using Dermal Fillers, Anti-wrinkle injections and a good skincare regime. Your doctor can talk to you about how to get the best out of your PDO Thread Lift during your consultation.

How long does it take to perform PDO threads?

A PDO thread lift is a straightforward treatment that typically takes 30 to 40 minutes. A licenced and experienced medical expert, such as a doctor , should perform the treatment. The PDO threads are inserted into the skin during the treatment, and you might suffer some moderate soreness or bruising afterwards, but these side effects should go away in a few days.

What advantages can PDO threads offer?

The fact that PDO threads are a non-surgical procedure, requiring neither large incisions nor general anaesthesia, is one of its key advantages. This also implies that there will be little to no recovery time, and you can return to your regular activities right away. This is in comparison to a facelift procedure which may provide better long term results but may have a longer time for recovery. PDO threads are also quick and come with a low chance of problems or negative side effects. Additionally, the effects persist a long time because the PDO threads continue to encourage collagen and elastin formation for several months after the procedure.
