Rapid Covid-19 Antigen Test

If you are symptomatic or it is less than 2 weeks since you had symptoms the rapid antigen test is suitable.  The rapid antigen test can show if you are currently infected with SARS-CoV-2.  This is also used as a screening test for work purposes.  If the test is positive then a PCR test is recommended.  If you have symptoms, it is generally advised to book a test with the NHS.

The rapid Covid-19 test is performed using a nose and throat swab.  The Public Health England video demonstrates the technique used for self sampling of the swabs.  Once the swabs are taken they are placed in a special container with a buffer.  This fluid is then placed on the lateral flow test for the results.  The results should be reviewed between 15-30 minutes.

The rapid coronavirus antigen test is currently £35 for the lateral flow test.  There is an additional postal charge of £3.50 for home tests.
